There is a great importance of theme and literary characteristics when attempting to connect various literary works, as it allows the reader to make a deeper connection and understanding of the stories. Although The Management of Grief by Bharati Mukherjee and Araby by James Joyce had incredibly diverse settings, one may connect the two by the similar themes shared in both works. Both authors also frequently use recurring imagery and main character point of view in their stories, to further the readers understanding of the themes.
